Arne Jacobsen. Life and Work

Arne Jacobsen (1902–1971) is regarded as one of the 20th century’s greatest Danish architects. Although he established his international reputation mainly in furniture design, having produced some of the world’s most recognizable and sought-after chairs, he also ranks as a master of modern architecture. He painted watercolors, took an active interest in new building and production methods, and experimented with new materials in order to realize his vision.

This reprinted book represents the first comprehensive study of Jacobsen’s work, spanning from his early neoclassical buildings to furniture and his late modern monumental works. The project was a decade in the making and offers a detailed account of Arne Jacobsen’s life, his sources of inspiration, and in-depth analyses of his architecture and design. The first section of the book provides insight into his life, sources of inspiration, and the results of his efforts, while the second section delves into detailed analyses of select works. The book concludes with a list of Arne Jacobsen’s work, a biographical list and an extensive index.
